About

In 2024, the European Heritage Days invite us on a journey along the "Routes, Networks and Connections" that have shaped the rich picture of our shared history. From ancient trade routes to the vibrant cultural exchanges that define Europe today, this year's theme celebrates the invisible threads that connect us all.

Across Europe, the gates will open to hidden treasures and timeless landmarks, offering a rare glimpse into the stories that have shaped our collective identity. It's a celebration not just of the places, but of the ideas and people who traveled these routes, leaving their mark on the landscapes and communities we cherish.

In the heart of Transylvania, the commune of Biertan joins this effort and will turn into a living picture of heritage and festivity. Echoes of history will echo through the UNESCO-listed fortified church, while the entire community will host a vibrant celebration of music, culture and community.

Nestled among the rolling hills and ancient forests of Transylvania, Biertan is a village where time seems to stand still, preserving the echoes of a rich past. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and carrying the title of "Storytelling Village" in the Destination of the Year 2024 competition, Biertan delights visitors with its cobbled streets, fortified church and the enduring spirit of the Saxons who founded it since the 19th century XII. Dominating the scenic landscape of Transylvania, the Fortified Church of Biertan stands as an impressive witness to Saxon architectural mastery and historical resilience.

We invite you to explore the history and charm of the places through a rich and carefully prepared agenda of activities:
