About

• A project carried out by ULBS and the Masca Foundation, with the support of JTI, in partnership with TNRS and co-financed by the Sibiu County Council

The "Amurgul Baroc" street parade, part of the "Heritage" project, initiated by maestro Mihai Mălaimare, will be presented to the public in six localities of Sibiu county in September. The project is produced by the "Lucian Blaga" University in Sibiu and the Masca Foundation, with the support of JTI, in partnership with the "Radu Stanca" National Theater in Sibiu.

Impressive period costumes, the poems of the poet Radu Stanca, voices and instruments, which are allegorical, along with countless new artistic elements are included in the performance of the students of the Theater Arts Department of the "Lucian Blaga" University in Sibiu.
"Baroque Twilight" will be presented on September 20, at 18:00, at Biertan, on Nicolae Bălcescu Street.

On a splendid boulevard of memories, the poet Radu Stanca expresses his feelings, surrounded by the splendor of some costumes coming directly from the 18th century, the Transylvanian baroque century. In the rhythm of the dances specific to that period, which transform the street into a huge dance hall, the characters dispute their right over the poet's imagination. The show ends with a toast to love and a ballad dedicated to the splendid city of Sibiu.

"Bringing the magic of the Sibiu International Theater Festival closer to the communities of Sibiu county is one of the reasons why we are partners in this special event every year. The promotion of culture in the small urban or rural environment plays an essential role in educating the younger generation, in preserving the traditions, values and identity of local communities. At the same time, culture is not only customs and crafts passed down from generation to generation, but also a source of social cohesion and belonging, and such cultural events succeed in strengthening community ties and passing on their unique heritage. I thank our partners at FITS and especially maestro Constantin Chiriac, who accepted our challenge, and now a unique show will be performed in six communities. I invite you, dear citizens of Sibiu, to be part of this initiative and, in addition to the beauty that the surroundings of Sibiu County offer you, to fully enjoy an exceptional artistic moment", said Daniela Cîmpean, president of the Sibiu County Council.

"It's a real joy to see how many chances Sibiu enjoys when it comes to access to culture and quality shows. The "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu and the Masca Foundation, led by Mihai Mălaimare, in collaboration with the "Radu Stanca" National Theatre, create an opportunity for the people of Sibiu to remember the famous century of the Transylvanian Baroque. The main reason why I put my shoulder to the realization of this project, as the Minister of Culture, is that it takes the theater to the streets, and makes it accessible to those who do not often attend theater performances.
Thanks to the involvement of the Sibiu County Council, this year the theater also reaches close to the people of the communities that do not enjoy the same cultural abundance as that of the municipality. The streets of Săliște, Racovița, Avrig, Biertan, Agnita or Cisnădie will transform, in September, into a huge dance hall. I congratulate the coordinators of this innovative project, Ms. Luminița Bârsan and master Constantin Chiriac. I am convinced that the entire Sibiu county will welcome this initiative with open arms!" – Raluca Turcan, Minister of Culture from Romania.
"Amurgul Baroc" premiered on May 30, enjoyed success at the International Theater Festival in Sibiu 2024, and during this summer it was presented in Sibiu, Făgăraș and other localities in the country.

The project is co-financed by the Sibiu County Council through a partnership between the "Radu Stanca" National Theater Sibiu and the County Council.
