Pünkösti Manor: A Baroque Architectural Jewel in Ozun
Ozun is a commune with a remarkably rich architectural heritage, boasting no fewer than 40 manor houses. Among them, Pünkösti Manor certainly stands out as one of the most distinctive from an architectural point of view. Its mansard roof is characteristic of important buildings in the Székely region and throughout Transylvania from the late 18th century.
The double roof, typical of Baroque architecture, is an astonishing piece of craftsmanship—an architectural achievement for its time—most likely created by Saxon master builders. It is believed that during the 17th–18th centuries, the building featured a prominent porch, typical of the manor houses in the Three Chairs (Trei Scaune) region.

Belle Époque Elegance in Miclăușeni: Sturdza Castle
Just 20 kilometers from the town of Roman, in the heart of a romantic park, you’ll discover a place that feels straight out of a fairy tale: Sturdza Castle in Miclăușeni. With a history full of fascinating characters and the atmosphere of an era when elegance and erudition were central values of high society, a visit to Miclăușeni Castle is a wonderful opportunity to revisit bygone times through the power of imagination.
Although the estate’s history dates back to the 14th century, its golden age coincides with the period when George Sturdza and Maria Ghica—daughter of the prominent statesman Ion Ghica—lived here. They built the current Gothic-inspired castle between 1880 and 1904 on the site of an older manor constructed in 1755.
The Sturdza family motto, “Beauty shines everywhere,” inscribed in Latin on all the castle’s façades, perfectly reflects the Belle Époque atmosphere that prevailed here in the years before the outbreak of the great wars. As you stroll through the elegant salons, you can easily imagine the great personalities of the time who attended the cultural soirées organized by the Sturdza-Ghica family: King Carol I, Mihail Kogălniceanu, George Enescu, Nicolae Iorga, and many others.

Guardian of the Danube: The Story of Severin Fortress
Severin Fortress was the political and administrative center of the Banate of Severin. Its strategic position gave it a significant political, military, and economic role throughout its three centuries of existence, supported by intense trade connections along the Lower Danube. From the second half of the 14th century onward, the fortress became a true bastion of anti-Ottoman resistance and a precious jewel of the Wallachian rulers’ crown.
As you explore its history, you’ll encounter the Knights Hospitaller, the Teutonic Knights, and notable historical figures such as Sigismund of Luxembourg, Mircea the Elder, Vlad Dracul, and John Hunyadi.
Visiting Severin Fortress immerses you in a medieval atmosphere through exhibitions of weapons, armor, and instruments of torture, as well as beautiful collections of costumes and musical instruments. Several lookout points offer stunning views of the Danube—yet another reason to step inside and enjoy a truly unique experience.

To make the visitor experience as pleasant and interactive as possible, a modern building with museum spaces and auxiliary facilities will soon be constructed at the entrance to the site, as part of a PNRR-funded project carried out by Hunedoara County Council.
Part of the museum and monument network of the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilization in Deva, the existing museum highlights artifacts discovered at the archaeological site of Colonia Ulpia Traiana Augusta Dacica Sarmizegetusa. Its exhibition spaces display epigraphic and sculptural monuments, military equipment, fragments of imperial statues, mosaics, and objects made of bronze, bone, ceramic, glass, and coins—all bearing witness to an era of great refinement and cultural development.
